Etsy front page-must be a sunday thing!

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

Lovely Shana alerted me this afternoon of yet another Etsy Front page siting of my lego bracelets! I am on the E-tip train here with etsy. Missed seeing it on the front page myself, as now it has elusively moved to Treasury West. Very mysterious, this etsy stuff; hopefully someday they will archive the front pages (the etsy people told me they were considering this for the future). Anyhow, Linda, a fellow Piscean otherwise known as “alamodestuff” featured my violette femme bracelet on her “Off the Cuff” treasury. She has a great design eye, love her bags. Check out the treasury before it expires tuesday.

Cute factor off the charts!

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

Found my way into the cutest craft of the week via flickr, by way of the etsy treasury below; HouseOfMouse who makes the sweetest felt mice figures I’ve ever laid eyes on. I used to have a super obsession with collecting anything mouse until 8 years ago when a live one invaded my apartment and tormented me. These mice, however, may have cured my disaffection. Couldn’t help but share the smile with the rest of you out there.

Here is DJ Mouse Girl, and her description says, “DJ Mousy Mouse will keep you up all night with her funky beats and amazing scratching abilities (the records not your furniture). She comes complete with headphones and tiny little record in her hand. She is the perfect gift for anyone who loves clubbing, mixing or popular culture.” Go get one for yourself on her etsy site!

“Coloring outside the lines” Etsy Treasury

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

Today Grace Napoleon of re-useful on Etsy has been so kind as to include my 81 stripe basic bracelet in her Etsy Treasury, “Coloring outside the lines“. The collection has a warm, breezy feel, as if one were sitting in bed sipping tea, windows open to the ocean. Check it out before it expires Monday. Grace makes clothing from repurposed clothes. See her cashmere sweater below.

New Release: Art Jewelry Today 2

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

Soon to hit the bookstores is the newly published Art Jewelry Today 2, by Jeffrey B. Snyder. My work is in it, plus many others I know, like Shana Astrachan, Christine Dhein, Harriete Estel Berman. It is the second in a series pioneered by the late Dona Meilach, and is a survey of contemporary art jewelry around the world. Hardbound, published by Schiffer Publishing; if it’s anything like the first book, this one will be well worth shelling out the bucks for hardbound.

Necklace on Front page of etsy!

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Thanks to Lynette of Asymmetry, I found out that my camou necklace (3rd row, first on left) was featured on the Front Page of Etsy yesterday! It’s all about color tags, I tell ya (check out how all the groupings I’ve been in are color grouped). Sweet way to start off the week! emiko-o camou on front page

Exciting news! My *e*oware jewelry is now available at a new venue in San Francisco: the store at the San Francisco Museum of Craft + Design located at 550 Sutter St near Union Square. I just delivered a large, 42 piece collection last week, including this brand new cufflink design.

PLUS, mark your calendar for their next opening, October 17, when I will be unveiling my interactive jewelry installation–My First Royal Jewels Jewellery Collection. The public will be encouraged to try on the pieces while being enlightened as how to properly handle art jewelry. It is inspired from this year’s Museum of Contemporary Craft exhibition, Touching Warms the Art, for which I made the Queen Margherita necklace. My installation is to compliment the main gallery exhibition, The Thinking Body, co-curated Kate Wagle and Anya Kivarkis, the latter whose experimental jewelry I’ve always admired. Showing alongside me with an an interactive lighting exhibit will be Oakland artist, Nick Dong.

See my project develop in posts yet to come (and yes, there are legos involved)…

Crit Collective member on today’s Craftzine blog!

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

Fellow Critique Collective member, Reed Easley, was featured with her bridal bouquet today on Craft magazine’s blog! And right after her wedding to boot, which was this past Saturday. The Collective definitely had a hand in creating crafts for the wedding; Shana Astrachan in particular created these fabulous vintage rafia flowers from a loom she bought from Cathy of California while we were at Maker Faire. Together we created the base by carving it from a large styrofoam sphere and covering it with pleated white cotton, tulle, and a large satin bow. The handle was a screwdriver wrapped in floral tape and inserted into the foam base, a perfect solution for our tool-loving bride! Amazing how innovative one can be at the witching hour on deadline! Perhaps Shana will start a line of bridal bouquets…..

Pilates pendant created for JoeandClara.com

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Hot off the bench is the second Pilates pose pendant, “Control Balance”, created in sterling silver especially for JoeandClara.com.

Joe & Clara is a Pilates inspired clothing, jewelry, and accessories company founded by my good friend, Romina Laygo. We started designing the pendants a couple of years ago, the first piece modeled after the “Teaser” pose. You can purchase the pendants through the JoeandClara store.

This time around, I documented the process of making the pendant, from graphic design to wax model to final casting. See the complete story on my flickr set titled, Pilates Pendant.
