It’s that time of year again, when San Francisco Artists open their work spaces for public perusal and purchasing during Artspan SF Open Studios. Those of us who are jewelers hesitate in being so transparent as to where we keep our stash of stuff and prefer group shows on neutral ground. Such is the 7 of us jewelers (and one printmaker, not on the postcard) who are showing and selling at TRUESILVER Gallery this weekend showcasing Noe Valley/Mission artists. It’s a diverse group of jewelers with something for everyone, from alternative materials (LEGO, sequins, felt, handmade paper), to one-of-a-kind designy pieces made of silver and gold using traditional goldsmithing techniques. Plus reclaimed knit sweaters, metal sculptures and 2D prints.

Our group is: Shana Astrachan (sequins, felt, metal, with a vintage flair), Deborah Boskin (metal and natural object jewelry), Raissa Bump (reclaimed wool wearables, metal, has a gallery in the Richmond District), Derek Duncan (graffitti jewelry, bling), Ani Ghajanian (metal sculpture, jewelry), Kelly Nedderman (handmade paper with metal), me (LEGO), Annie Odorisio (printmaker and winner of Open Studios Juror’s Choice award).

artspan SF Open Studios 2012Lucky for me, I was selected to be a featured artist in the Artspan Guide, a printed catalog (see image, above) showcasing all of the Premier membership artists showing. A great shot of me hanging out in my studio by Jeremy Joven, Editor-in-Chief of Asterisk San Francisco and who designed the Guide. Check out my artist page on Artspan for some of the work I’ll be featuring.

captain basic 1x6 bracelet

After a successful American Craft Council show this Aug, and LOOT: MAD about Jewelry trunkshow in NYC during Fashion Week, I’ve decided to focus on pumping out more of the redesigned, taller, Basics bracelets with a fun palette for fall.
Super Hero Minifigure earrings
Wonderwoman & Superman, Batman & Catwoman, Witch and Vampire, Hans Solo and Leia – I can outfit your ears just in time for Halloween next week!

Lego Head storage

I’ve got a box of the past seasons’ bracelets and goodies that are WAY MARKED DOWN, now that I’ve redesigned the fit of the entire line. Some pieces I’ve had for several years, some that are only a season old, but are in the chunkier design. Still perfectly fine and would make great gifts for the holidays. Come by early to get first dibs on the SALE BUCKET!

SF Open Studios with Metal Arts Guild Members

Friday, September 30th, 2011

artspan open studiosWhirlwind upon whirlwind! Seems like just yesterday I was at the ACC Fort Mason show in my new “garden” store of LEGO® wonder! Well, this weekend you can find me for the first time at Artspan SF Open Studios for the Mission District Weekend 1. Ten members of the Metal Arts Guild SF (included yours truly) have banded together in a great shop/gallery space in the Valencia St/18 St corridor run by Jeff Burwell of Burwell Arts. All of us are metal artists/jewelers/sculptors living in the city and making really fresh work. No where else in Open Studios are you going to see so much in one stop in one room!
